What is a Polyglot?

A polyglot is someone who can understand and speak multiple languages (usually 3 or more). To qualify, the person should be able to hold a conversation at normal speed with native speakers about a diverse range of topics. In the framework of European languages, this often corresponds to a level of B2.Polyglots often have plenty of advantages on the job market, but also in personal life. The average salary is often higher but it also allows to pursue many more and more diverse hobbies.

How to become a Polyglot?

Becoming a polyglot is a journey. Some are fortunate to grow up in multilingual families, absorbing languages from an early age. Most of us start later in life or even as adults or older adults. The secret to becoming a polyglot as an adult lies in immersion, consistent practice, and a willingness to learn. Immersion, whether by living in a different country or surrounding oneself with the language through media, accelerates understanding and fluency. Passive acquisition is the result of immersion. Yet, structured learning, and regular practice can also be very beneficial.Polyglot Reunion is about both: immersion, practice, acquisition and deliberate, structural learning.

What is Polyglot Reunion?

Polyglot Reunion Asia is a gathering of like-minded language enthusiasts. Our event aims at sharing our curiosity of languages and sharing best practices in language learning and acquisition. This might mean we geek out about agglutinating languages and their grammar structures.Or we learn how to dance in Spanish and share a Pad Thai cooking lesson in Thai. For us, it is as important to share good moments and the fun that languages can bring as is the best practices in acquiring languages.

When and how to join Polyglot Reunion?

First things first: You just need to be curious and open to this experience. There is no need to speak plenty of languages. One is enough!!! In fact, if you would speak a language that nobody else knows, you will probably be a very welcome guest as long as you find joy yourself. We are curious about how to communicate in such a situation. Our Polyglot Reunion takes place usually in two parts: the Polyglot Reunion week and the more dense Polyglot Reunion Weekend. The former is for polyglots that want to attend more workshops and connect deeper, the later is the grande finale with more locals.Usually we organise one Polyglot Reunion per year. It could take place in ChiangMai, Bangkok, Taipei or other cities in Asia.We are structuring some items to do and also have more unconference sessions. So many participants also organise workshops and share their experience. We try to make it inclusive and keep costs to a minimum (usually below 50 USD). Our participants are also our teachers - we learn from each other!!!Get on the email list to learn more.We haven't got a 2024 date set yet, but we are in talks about a potential reunion in October or November in Taichung, Hualien or ChiangMai.
